HAINAN – THE ONLY PARADISE LEFT FOR HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY WORLDWIDE
International Tourism Destination has been established as a national strategy for the Chinese Central Government. New hotel constructions are rushing to Hainan. By 2015, there will be more than 260 new star-rated hotels in Hainan, most of which will be deluxe four and five-star hotels, and even seven-star hotels which are currently under construction. In addition to the hotels, SPA, clubs, resorts and leisure mansions will establish branches in Hainan to guide the booming hospitality industry in Hainan. Large amounts of hotels were built in Dubai in the past, and now Hainan will prove to be a dominant competitor in the hospitality industry.
CHINA’S POLICIES
On the 4th Jan. 2010, the Chinese government has implemented the policy of transforming Hainan into an international tourism destination. Announced on 1st Jan. 2011, the tax refunds will be available for foreign visitors who travel to, implying that a series of policies and construction plans are soon to be launched. Since the enforcement of tax refunds, Hainan has experienced a new wave of travelers at larger scales than ever before, including queues lining up around duty-free shops.
HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY’S FORESEEABLE GROWTH
The establishment of the international tourism destination and the rising of Hainan tourism bring in huge amounts of customers, providing a broad market for the development of the hospitality industry. In 2008, 259 hotels were star-rated in Hainan Province, among which 20 were five-star class, 54 were four-star class, 116 were three-star class, 55 were two-star class and 14 were one-star class. Also, there were a total of 39284 available guest rooms with 737, 600 available beds. After the international financial crisis, the hotel industry was undergoing a gradual recovery in 2009. By the end of 2009, 238 hotels were star-rated in Hainan Province, among which 20 were five-star class, 54 were four-star class and 112 were three-star class. The occupancy of guest room was up to 59.18% and comparative figures of 2010 are currently being updated and expected to grow.
The more thrilling news is, by 2015, there will be over 70 new five-star hotels in Hainan, of which many are super luxurious. Figures of new star-rated hotels in Hainan will add up to over 260, in the new shore destination of “Haitang Bay”, as well as over 110 new hotels currently under construction. All figures are exclusive of budget hotels, leisure mansions, and private resorts all of which have similar functions as hotels. in the upcoming decade, Hainan will be a paradise for not only travelers, but also for hospitality industry.
